Recognized as a Top Doc by Grand Rapids Magazine, Dr. Freeland Combines Expertise with Compassionate Care 

Ryan Freeland, MD, FAAD, a distinguished board-certified dermatologist and owner of Wolverine Dermatology, has been honored as a Top Doc by Grand Rapids Magazine. With a deep commitment to providing exceptional dermatologic care, Dr. Freeland specializes in medical, surgical, and pediatric dermatology, aiming to deliver the highest quality of care to patients and their families.

At Wolverine Dermatology, located in Wyoming, Michigan, Dr. Freeland has successfully transformed his vision of a dermatologic and skin cancer center of excellence into reality. His mission is to provide efficient, respectful, and compassionate healthcare in a joyful environment. Dr. Freeland takes pride in addressing a wide array of dermatological conditions, with a particular focus on skin cancer screening, procedural dermatology, and the treatment of psoriasis, acne, connective tissue diseases, and genetic dermatitis.

A proud native of Portage, Michigan, Dr. Freeland pursued his education with great diligence. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Wheaton College in Illinois, majoring in Biology, as well as Biblical and Theological Studies. He went on to obtain his Medical Degree from Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine. His commitment to medicine led him to complete a one-year internship at the Grand Rapids Medical Education and Research Center.

Following his internship, Dr. Freeland served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for 12 years, including multiple deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq and six years as a flight surgeon. He completed his residency training in dermatology at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center and Brooke Army Medical Center while on active duty, with assignments at various bases across the United States and overseas, including Florida, Texas, Washington, D.C. and Germany.

Dr. Freeland is recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD) and is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). His extensive training and experience equip him to uphold the highest standards of care in dermatology.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Freeland has contributed significantly to medical education. He served on the teaching faculty at the dermatology residency program at Walter Reed Medical Center and held an academic appointment at the military medical school in Bethesda, Maryland. His dedication to teaching and mentorship has left a lasting impact on the medical community.

A dynamic educator and combat-experienced physician, Dr. Freeland is renowned for his leadership, ability to perform in high-pressure and austere medical settings, exceptional interpersonal communication skills, and deep passion for teaching patients, students, and residents. 

Outside of his medical career, he enjoys running, traveling, SCUBA diving, and supporting his favorite college football teams.
