Is tennis elbow a chronic condition?
Tennis elbow, or any tendinitis, can be cured completely. But it does take a long time! It can be 6-12 months for the symptoms to completely go away. A lot of that depends on how much you continue to use the affected area. If you still play a lot of tennis, your body has to heal from all the old damage, as well as all the new damage that happens every time you play! READ MORE
Why was my son sent home with fractured ribs?
No, there is very little reason to operate on fractured ribs. We only do that in rare situations where a large segment of the chest wall sucks in during breathing, what is known as a "flail chest." A flail chest will lead to a collapsed lung. But otherwise, ribs should be left to heal on their own. Fractured ribs are very painful, but surgery only makes that worse! READ MORE
I fractured my hand while playing in my league. Would I need surgery?
No, they don't always require surgery. Surgery is only used when we need to move the fracture pieces back together and hold them there. If the pieces are not too far apart, the fracture can often be treated just with a cast for about 4 weeks. READ MORE
How long is the recovery for a shoulder dislocation surgery?
In my practice, patients stay in the sling full time for four weeks. After that, you wear the sling just “out of the house” for two weeks but start transitioning out of the sling around the house during that time. So you are done with the sling by 6 weeks. And that’s when therapy starts in earnest. James Larson READ MORE
