In general, rectal polyps should be removed. The seriousness depends on the size and type of polyp. Polyps that have precancerous potential like adenomas should be removed. Hyperplastic polyps don't have the same potential. READ MORE

Do you get results immediately after a colonoscopy?
The doctor will tell you what was found on the colonoscopy. Generally if there were any polyps, hemorrhoids, or diverticulosis. Any biopsies or removal of polyps are sent to a pathologist who reviews them. Results are usually back in 1 to 3 business days. READ MORE
Ulcerative colitis?
There is a higher risk of colon cancer with active ulcerative colitis. The risk is higher after 8 to 10 years because inflammation causes changes to cells in the lining of the colon.
