She then went on to earn her medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, after which she performed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. This was followed by a clinical fellowship within the Division of Rheumatology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
A member of the American College of Rheumatology, she is board-certified in rheumatology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
