Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Justin R. Johnsen, who serves patients in Idaho.

Dr. Johnsen, a board-certified and fellowship-trained ophthalmologist, joined Allante Life Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa with locations in Boise and Nampa, Idaho in July of 2019. He specializes in blepharoplasty (eyelid lifts), orbital reconstruction, ptosis repair, oculofacial tumors, temporal artery biopsies, and full-facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He also provides many cosmetic services and is an expert in Botox®, Juvederm®, Voluma®, Sculptra®, CO2 laser skin resurfacing, eyebrow lifts, face lifts, and a variety of other cosmetic and anti-aging services. 

A 1999 graduate of the Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Johnsen completed his internship at LDS Hospital and his residency in ophthalmology at Vanderbilt University in 2003. This was followed by a fellowship in oculofacial plastic surgery at the Michigan Center for Oculoplastic, Orbital and Reconstructive Surgery. 

Directly after his fellowship, he began an academic career as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, Oculoplastic, and Orbital and Reconstructive Surgery at Duke University Eye Center in North Carolina. 

The doctor has won numerous awards over the years, including several top doctor and distinguished doctor awards. He is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, whose mission is to serve the public by improving the quality of ophthalmic practice through a process of certification and Maintenance of Certification that fosters excellence and encourages continual learning.  

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery. 

When Dr. Johnsen is not helping his patients achieve their aesthetic goals, he enjoys spending time with his wife and six children in a variety of activities. His other interests include cooking, traveling, reading, and enjoying a good movie.
