Dr. Sharma graduated with her Medical degree from the Armed Forces Medical College Pune in India in 1994. After obtaining her Medical Degree Dr. Sharma relocated to the United States and completed her residency with the Alameda County Medical Center in California. Followed by her internal medicine residency with the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group. Wanting to further her training she completed her geriatric medicine fellowship with the University of Hawaii. She is tr-certified in internal medicine, geriatric medicine, and palliative medicine. To stay up to date in her field she remains a professional member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Sharma is currently the Medical Director for Home and Palliative Hospice with Aurora Health Care. She is also affiliated with the Aurora West Allis Medical Center. Palliative Medicineis specialized medical care for people with serious illness. This type of care is focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family. Palliative care is provided by a specially-trained team of doctors, nurses and other specialists who work together with a patient’s other doctors to provide an extra layer of support. It is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness, and it can be provided along with curative treatment. When she is not working, Dr. Sharma enjoys reading, writing, and journaling.
