How long does it take to realign your neck?
Re-align your neck? In order to understand where your neck biomechanics currently are, you would need to get x-rays taken by a trained chiropractic physician that can properly analyze your spine and provide the needed therapy to correct your individualized pathology. The ideal cervical spine curve is 42 degrees. So based on level of degeneration and percentage loss of curve, the number of visits required can vary. Loss of curve and forward head posture directly affect the function of the somatic and autonomic nervous system, cranial nerves 5-12 and put you sympathetic system in a heightened state. To help you understand the concept of bio-physics of the spine take a look at idealspine.com. There you can find a qualified doctor to help you establish a baseline of your spine and how many therapies it would take to improve it. With objective data analysis you have a starting point and can then make better decisions on what you would like to do with the information. drrobpomahac.com Thanks READ MORE
What is a chiropractor doing when he cracks your neck?
The chiropractic adjustment stimulates the nervous system. Each bone correlates with a part of your body. For example, the 5th bone in your neck dermatome covers the outer part of the upper arm down to about the elbow. C5 also controls functions of the autonomic nervous system. In order for the chiropractic to understand what they are trying to correct they need to have a complete examination including x-rays to diagnose you. Please take a look at my website, drrobpomahac.com to better understand what kind of DC you should go see. Because there is a difference. Thanks READ MORE
Why do I feel nauseous after the chiropractor?
This is something to be concerned with. Question: do you have any previous neck injury, like a car crash, slip and fall, concussion? Even a minor fender bender? You could be dealing with an upper cervical ligament instability. Look up alar ligament injury and vagus nerve dysfunction. Has your chiropractor taken neck X-rays with flexion and extension studies? Bottom line, you should not be having this response and the Chiro should not continue to adjust your neck until they are able to determine the pathology that is causing this reaction. READ MORE
What helps with back muscle pain?
The most effective way to help with muscle pain is to reduce the inflammation by ice therapy. No longer than 20 minutes. Heat before - ice after. So, if you are going to be active, heat the injured area with a hot pack or tiger balm, after you are done with your activity calm it down with ice. In the evenings, if you shower, do not finish your shower with warm/hot water. This will contribute to inflammation and you may wake up with soreness the next day. Instead, finish your shower with cool/cold water - the level you can handle for 30 seconds. If you have chronic or re-occurring back pain, then muscle pathology isn't the only cause of your symptoms. The "4 Pillars of Pain" are muscle, nerve, bone, soft tissue (discs, ligaments, tendons). Check out my website: DrRobPomahac.com READ MORE
How do you know if rib pain is muscular?
First, how long has the pain been around? Second, did the pain occur due to trauma? If the pain lingers for longer than 3-4 days, then you are most likely looking at more than a sprain/strain. In most cases, the thoracic spine region plays a role in rib pain. When you examine the thoracic region via X-ray from a front view, there should be no curves - unless you have scoliosis. But from the lateral X-ray view, there should be a 44-degree curve. Many times, there is change in the mid-back curve that puts increased pressure on the associated vertebrae-rib joint space. In order to determine if this is occurring, I suggest seeing a spine specialist that specializes in spine biomechanics. You can find one at idealspine.com. I've been analyzing spine related injuries/chronic pain for 18 years, played professional hockey, and have sustained too many injuries to mention. In my opinion, it's better to understand the causes of your symptoms so you can make an educated decision on how you would like to resolve it and manage it. READ MORE
Why do chiropractors require so many visits?
There are two types of chiropractors, objective, evidence based, and the other that does not use objective data collection, only subjective data. Unless the chiropractor can validate what the causes of your symptoms are, then what are they trying to fix? I evaluate muscle, nerve, bone, soft tissue (discs, ligaments) pathology, in order to determine what is causing your symptoms. Then I have a direct therapy solution for the positive pathology, and then I perform a post-comparative objective data collection to illustrate the change. Depending on the severity of the pathology, the causes of your symptoms may take x number of visits to improve. For example, if you have phase 2 degenerative joint disease, that takes approximately 15-30 years to develop, hence your treatment plan may take more visits. If your Chiro does no objective evaluation and provides you a treatment plan, then I would run for the door. READ MORE
What is the fastest way to fix forward head posture?
There are usually multiple pathologies that contribute to FHP. Muscle and structural dysfunctions are two of the most common. Head retraction and head extension exercises are helpful for muscle dysfunction. Hold for 5 seconds and repeat 10 times, once in the morning and once before you go to bed. Bring your hand to your head and not your head to your hand. Use your headrest in your car. Look up https://www.postureanalysis.com/ to self analysis your muscular posture. Loss of ideal structural posture has additional long term effects on muscle, nerve, bone and soft tissue (ligaments, discs, tendons, intrinsic muscles) and lead to reduced quality of life. In order to examine the probable structural pathology go to idealspine.com and my site drrobpomahac.com for a better understanding of spine pathology and corrective treatments. READ MORE
What problems can scoliosis cause?
Scoliosis is an anterior to posterior spinal pathology that involves an increase of lateral bending and rotation. This causes additional, abnormal stress on the spine, nerves, bones and joints. This continued, increased loading contributes to accelerated spine arthritis, nerve pressure, degenerative disc and degenerative joint disease. This leads to increased somatic and autonomic neurological dysfunction. When you examine your lumbar spine and its associated somatic and autonomic nerve dysfunction it affects the following muscle areas: hip muscles, quads, hamstrings, lower back stabilizer muscles, QL, calves. Your lower extremity muscles. Organ/glandular systems; large and small intestines, bladder, reproductive systems. So to answer your questions, establishing a baseline of your scoliosis through x-ray biomechanical analysis and then providing a treatment plan to improve the muscle, nerve, structure and internal soft tissue (discs, ligaments, tendons, etc.) is vital to improve your future quality of life outcomes. Is it good to crack your back?
So, the outcome of "cracking your back" is to reduce neurological stress, which stimulates a response of reduced symptoms. That's why it most likely feels better when you crack your back. But why is there additional pressure that you feel needs to be reduced? The most common cause is change of spinal curvature from an anterior and lateral perspective. When your spine is out of alignment, it increases an additional, abnormal load on your spine, which directly affects the function of your nervous system, which controls your muscle systems. By evaluating the spine via X-ray, biomechanical assessments are able to determine the cause of your symptoms. By analyzing the "Four Pillars of Pain," muscle, nerve, bone and soft tissue (discs, ligaments, tendons), you can establish a baseline of causes and then develop a plan to correct the pathologies. How long does it take for a torn meniscus to heal on its own?
A torn meniscus may not heal on its own and most likely will continue to degenerate if not managed properly. The most common cause of the breakdown of your meniscus is increased pressure on it for a long period of time. Posture plays a major role. I would recommend getting an MRI and then a consult with a regenerative practitioner to determine if biologic therapy could benefit you. Potential biologic therapy would include PRP, stem cells, exosomes. READ MORE
How do I know if my knee is out of alignment?
Knee out of alignment could mean patella tracking dysfunction. If that is what you're trying to determine to be your pathology, an X-ray of the knees could determine the position of your patella. A sitting and standing posture analysis and a foot analysis can also help understand how your posture and your feet are playing a role in knee dysfunction. READ MORE
Can a chiropractor help a headache?
Yes, but a chiropractic who analyzes spinal change, loss of curve is ideal. Headaches have a neurological component, so the question is why is there increased pressure on the nerves. A reduced blood and oxygen supply could also be contributing factors. So in order to understand why you are suffering with headaches, a proper spinal biomechanics assessment needs to be part of the initial evaluation. Minor brain trauma from sports injuries, slips and falls, auto crashes also play a role in the manifestation of headaches and a cervical ligament instability assessment is also vital. READ MORE
Why do I get headaches after chiropractic care?
This is not a good sign. Question - have you had any neck trauma? Sports injuries, concussions, slip and fall, bonking your head, auto accidents. If so, then an upper cervical instability may be a contributing case of past Chiro adjustments. A digital motion x-ray could help understand what is happening with the stabilizers of the neck, your ligaments. If this is a factor, then upper cervical adjustments would not be indicated. A loss of normal spine curve also reduces the amount of oxygen and blood supply to your brain which also could be contributing to headaches. This can be evaluated by a proper biomechanical assessment of your neck. READ MORE
Why does my back hurt more after chiropractor?
The chiropractic adjustment takes the pressure off the nervous system, that's the goal. But why is there additional pressure on the nerves? The main cause is spinal misalignments that can be evaluated with a biomechanical x-ray analysis. Do you have DJD, DDD, disc pathology. These potential pathologies need to be determined to help understand why you have LBP and why you have increased LBP following your chiro treatment. READ MORE
What causes back misalignment?
Life! If you don't have your spine evaluated with x-ray biomechanics then continued poor sitting, standing and movement posture will continue to contribute. Increase stress like sports injuries, slips and falls and car crashes accelerate spinal and ligament pathology and contribute to back misalignment. Look up Idealspine.com to find a practitioner that can properly evaluate your spine and provide you with proof driven therapies. READ MORE
Can you go to a chiropractor for foot pain?
I would recommend seeing a foot doctor for foot pain. A chiro may be able to help, but we do not specialize in feet. Feet are complicated and require an expert in the field of feet to truly help you with your symptoms. READ MORE
Are push-ups bad for shoulder impingement?
Great question. First, you need to uncover why you have shoulder impingement? Is it coming from your neck and your shoulder or just your neck or just your shoulder. Is your posture contributing to your impingement? Push up may contribute to increased pain associated with impingement, but I would recommend what factors are causing your impingement and then correcting them, so you don't have to worry about exercising. What is better for sciatica acupuncture or chiropractor?
Sciatica is increased pressure of the lumbar spine nerves due to increased pressure placed on it by disc and spine bones. If you are able to examine the bio-mechanics of spine alignment that is putting pressure on the nerves that contribute to sciatica then you are correcting the cause of your sciatica in addition to the symptoms of sciatica. Neither traditional chiro nor acupuncture does this. You can check our idealspine.com to find a CBP doctor that can truly help you understand why you are having pain and how to correct the causes. Is it safe to take a baby to a chiropractor?
Yes, I'm a father of two boys ages 6 and 8 and they I have adjusted them since they were one day old. My background is in pre-med so I come from a position of scientific research that helps my decision making. Data has shown that kids fall 10,000 before the age of 10. Imagine the trauma of those falls on a kinds spine, let alone the use of ipads, cell phones etc on spine pathology and neurological dysfuntion. READ MORE
