Get to know Neurosurgeon Dr. Bjorn M. Lobo, who serves patients throughout the State of California.

As a neurosurgeon with unmatched expertise in his field, Dr. Lobo specializes in the treatment of brain tumors that arise from the base of the skull and pituitary gland, brain aneurysms, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformations, and spinal disorders. He brings years of training and practical experience to California Neurosurgical Institute, with convenient locations in Bakersfield, Encino, and Valencia, California.

Strongly believing in educating his patients about their conditions and treatment options, he always takes the time to explain how specific treatments work and their possible side effects, so he can make joint decisions with his patients about their health care. By working as a team, he empowers his patients to take control of their health care decisions during what can be an uncertain and stressful time of their lives.

Raised in Ohio, Dr. Lobo completed one of the six accelerated undergraduate and medical school programs in the country at Northeastern Ohio Medical University in Rootstown and earned his medical degree within six years. He then went on to complete his residency in neurological surgery and a two-year fellowship at the fourth highest-rated hospital in the country, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, which gave him hands-on training in the treatment of complex brain tumors that originate at the base of the skull.

Finally, he completed an additional one-year fellowship in minimally invasive and endoscopic skull base surgery at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California. He continues to take great pride in continuing his education in order to remain on top of the most cutting-edge treatments available for his patients.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS), the doctor is board-certified in neurosurgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, whose broad aim is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.

Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, certain types of birth defects, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.
