What does RSV cough sound like in toddlers?
RSV cough does not necessarily have a characteristic sound, but there are other physical signs that can help with the diagnosis such as a coarse wheeze or rapid breathing. With that said, due to mitigation strategies put in place to reduce covid, RSV was pretty much non-existent this year. READ MORE
Is it safe to give my child a cold shower in case of a high grade fever?
No. Your child would just end up using more energy to maintain the fever and they would probably feel worse. READ MORE
My daughter is just 7 years old and is suffering from severe hairfall. What should I do?
There are two common reasons for this. If she is anxious she may be pulling it out. The other reason is called telogen effluvium which is an immune response against her hair follicles. There are treatments for both of these and you should see your doctor for the appropriate diagnosis and care plan. READ MORE
At what age can I introduce my child to coconut water?
Coconut water is fine to give in small amounts from 6-12 months and in regular amounts in children over 1. READ MORE
Why is my little one not running around like other kids?
That's her personality. Let her be who she wants to be. As long as she gets some physical activity she will be fine. READ MORE
What is the permanent treatment for head lice?
There are many treatments for head lice. You can use a topical treatment called permethrin which you can just get from the pharmacy. The brand names for permethrin are Rid and Nix. There are different prescription lotions including ulesfia and spinosad. Finally, there is an oral medication called ivermectin. The next treatment should be discussed with your child's doctor. What causes children to be hyperactive?
There are genetic and environmental causes as well as risk factors for that type of behavior. We often find that one of the parents exhibited similar behavior as a child. Also, being born prematurely seems to be a risk factor. There is a chance she will "grow out of it" so do your best to model appropriate behavior, find activities where she can use that excess energy, and see how she does as she gets older. READ MORE

Can you recommend a safe ointment for diaper rashes?

Should I be concerned over the kind of water my son drinks?
You are going overboard. In fact, boiling water simply concentrates any dissolved material in it. A simple Brita or Pur water filter can improve the taste of tap water but it is not necessary. READ MORE
My child refuses to drink milk. Will it cause any health issues for him?
There are plenty of kids who are perfectly healthy without milk. Just make sure he is getting enough calcium and vitamin d from other sources. If he eats other dairy products such as yogurt or cheese he should be fine. READ MORE
Why is my daughter having recurrent abdominal pain?
The most common causes of abdominal pain in that age include stress, hunger, and lack of sleep. Some children have a condition called nonspecific abdominal pain of childhood. It is common enough that specialists have determined it to likely be a variant of migraine headaches. This is something that can be treated so talk to your doctor and if they are not familiar with the condition it may be time to see a specialist. READ MORE

As my child grows, what should be her intake of milk?
She can be totally healthy without milk. You don't say if she does other dairy products like cheese and yogurt. If she does, you have nothing to worry about. I believe in picking your battles and this is not one worth fighting. READ MORE
Is soy milk safe for kids?
If I were to rate the different alternative milk be options they would be as follows: 1. Almond- good source of protein, may have a lot of added sugar. 2. Coconut- good source of fat but can cause diarrhea 3. Cashew- nothing wrong with it but it can taste gross 4. Rice- almost no fat and no protein 5. Hemp- it's a weed, ew. 6. Soy- the soy protein effects your body in similar ways to the hormone estrogen. Not an ideal choice when there are better options. READ MORE
Do natural remedies help in treating strep throat or do you need medicine?
We treat strep to prevent rheumatic fever, a chronic condition that requires several years of antibiotic treatment. I would not recommend natural therapies alone because of this risk. READ MORE
Relapse tonsillitis
There are a lot of possibilities here. Your son could have tonsillar crypts, which can lead to recurrent problems that you describe. He could have a strep carrier in the household that is leading to recurrent strep. Finally, he could have a periodic fever syndrome such as pfapa. A good pediatrician can look over your kid's history and determine the best course of action. READ MORE
