Dr. Kolachalam is a board-certified general surgeon who is a part of the Providence Medical Group, serving patients at his private practice in Novi, Livonia, and Southfield, Michigan. While he provides a broad range of general surgery and wound care services, his main interest is in minimally invasive abdominal surgery, da Vinci surgery, endocrine surgery (thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands) and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
A believer in compassionate patient care, the doctor is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art surgical, diagnostic, and treatment technology, as well as offering support groups and community resources. He has performed over 500 da Vinci robotics cases and is a proven professional of robotic surgery.
Dr. Kolachalam served as the Section Chief for the Department of General Surgery at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan. He enjoys teaching as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at Michigan State University in East Lansing and is a part of the teaching faculty for Ascension Providence Hospital.
A 1981 graduate of the Sri Venkateshwara Medical College and Hospital in India, Dr. Kolachalam relocated to the United States to complete his Fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He then went on to complete his residency in general surgery at New York Methodist Hospital, followed by his residency in general surgery at Ascension Providence Hospital.
A member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, which is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
