Get to know Critical Care Specialist Dr. Rajendra M. Rampersaud, who serves patients in Yonkers, New York.

A highly trained critical care specialist, Dr. Rampersaud serves as the Chief of Medicine and Intensive Care, and leads the Sleep Center at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers, New York.

During the height of the COVID-19 surge, he was identified as the Pharmaceutical lead for the hospital. His efforts to make advancements since COVID include driving St. John’s participation in the Mayo Clinic’s largest plasma program of its kind in the United States.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Rampersaud graduated with his medical degree from the University of the East Medical School in the Philippines. After relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine at the St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in critical care medicine, pulmonary disease, sleep medicine and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

On a professional level, he is an active member of the American Medical Association, and the American Thoracic Society.

Intensive care medicine, also called critical care medicine, is a medical specialty that deals with seriously or critically ill patients who have, are at risk of, or are recovering from conditions that may be life-threatening. Critical care specialists provide around-the-clock care in highly-stressful situations within intensive care units (ICUs) in hospitals or trauma centers to the most seriously injured or ill patients.

Among his various accolades, Dr. Rampersaud has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award in 2018.
