Upon completion of his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from Thanjavur Medical College in India in 1994, Dr. Valappil performed his residency in pediatrics at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in 1997. He then completed his residency in neurology at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology in 2000.

Upon relocating to the United States, he performed fellowships in child neurology and epilepsy at Cleveland Clinic in 2009 and 2010, respectively. This was followed by additional fellowships in child neurophysiology, EEG and epilepsy & pediatrics with the Cleveland Clinic in 2011 and 2013, respectively, and an additional residency in pediatrics with Cleveland CLinic in 2013. 

As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in general neurology, child neurology, and epilepsy by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
