Get to know Internist Dr. Genola McKay-Childs, who serves patients in Jacksonville, Florida.

A committed internist, Dr. McKay-Childs is in practice at the Jacksonville 1 VA Clinic. She provides comprehensive care addressing a wide range of conditions, from common colds to diabetes, for patients at least 16 years of age.

After graduating from Clark Atlanta University, Dr. McKay-Childs entered and completed the MD/MPH dual degree program at Boston University School of Medicine & Boston University School of Public Health in 1997. She completed her internship at the Orlando Regional Healthcare Center and residency in internal medicine at the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center.

Among her prior affiliations, she was an attending physician with Family Care Partners in Argyle Forest and Orange Park, and served as a military physician in the Internal Medicine Department at Naval Air Station Hospital Jacksonville until her obligated service was completed in December 2006. During her navy career, she has toured the Naval Air Weapons Station in China Lake, California; Portsmouth Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia; and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.
