St. Alexius Hospital has one of the largest psychiatric programs operated by a private hospital in the St. Louis area. Psychiatrists, registered nurses, social workers, and other staff members, who are trained in treating patients with mental and emotional disorders, provide both individual attention and compassionate care. They offer a continuum of psychiatric services for adults (age 18 and older) as well as a geropsychiatric unit for older adults offering a wide range of medical and psychiatric services.
The St. Alexius Hospital Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a specialized department of St. Alexius Hospital Psychiatric Services. IOP is a continuum of psychiatric services providing core and enhanced treatment interventions for individuals suffering from mental and co-occurring disorders. The program is dedicated to the belief that individuals diagnosed with mental and co-occurring disorders are capable of improving the quality of their lives and that they deserve respect, dignity, and the best treatment available which supports this objective and personal patient goals.
Following the completion of his medical degree from Dow Medical College in Pakistan in 1993, Dr. Syed relocated to the United States. Once there, he performed his internship and residency in psychiatry at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in 1999 and 2002, respectively.
In good standing with a number of professional organizations, he is a member of the Schizophrenia International Research Society, the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, and the American Psychiatric Association.
Attributing his success to hard work and good patient care, Dr. Syed is the Medical Director & Principal Investigator at Arch Clinical Trials. As such, he performs multiple clinical trials in the areas of schizophrenia, major depression, dementia, postpartum depression, anxiety disorders, migraine, and pain disorders.
