Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Martin David Weltz, who serves patients in Baltimore, Maryland.

A top professional in the field of hematology/oncology, Dr. Weltz was formerly affiliated with the LifeBridge Health Alvin & the Former Medical Dirctor of Pallative Medicine Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute in Baltimore, Maryland.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Weltz earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Kansas City University of Medicine & Bioscience in 1973. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in hematology & medical oncology at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center with post doctoral training at National Cancer Institue Division of Cancer Treatemnt in Clinical Pharmacology at the NAH. 

Furthermore, he holds a Master of Public Health degree (MPH) at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, as well as a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) at Carey Business School Johns Hopkins, and is a Certified Hospital Medical Director (HMDC) as per the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Passionate about his profession, the doctor is board-certified in hematology, medical oncology, hospice & palliative medicine, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Achieving fellowship status, Dr. Weltz is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), and Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (FAAHPM). He is also an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, malignant blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and blood disorders such as iron-deficiency anemia, clotting abnormalities, hemophilia, and sickle-cell disease.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Weltz has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2020), On-Time Doctor Award (2020), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2020). Additionally he has been awarded the Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award for Medical Hematology and Medical Oncology (2013) and Top Doc (2022) from Top Doctor Awards.
