Dr. Segurola Jr. is a world-renowned surgeon in minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgery. He serves as the Chief of Cardiac Surgery for Jackson Health System, the Medical Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Jackson North Medical Center, and as the Medical Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Jackson South Medical Center. 

As the Medical Director of Jackson Heart Institute, he leads the renowned cardiac surgery team, bringing together two of the most trusted names in the community to form Miami’s most comprehensive heart team.

Having performed more than 5,000 cardiac procedures and 4,000 thoracic procedures, his expertise include coronary artery bypass surgery, thoracoscopy-assisted surgery for atrial fibrillation, aortic root reconstruction, minimally invasive valve surgery, and treatment options for end-stage heart disease. 

In recent years, he transitioned his practice to focus on minimally invasive heart surgery and percutaneous valve replacement, which lead to higher success outcomes and shorter recovery periods for patients.

After finishing medical school, Dr. Segurola Jr. completed a research fellowship in vascular/molecular biology at Yale University School of Medicine, followed by a surgical residency at UMDNJ-Rutgers School of Medicine. He then completed three fellowships in trauma & critical care at Ryder Trauma Center from the University of Miami School of Medicine, and in cardiothoracic surgery & heart and lung transplantation at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine (Lillehei Heart Institute), considered the birthplace of modern heart surgery. 

In 2004, Dr. Segurola Jr. returned to his roots in South Florida and was formerly chief of cardiac surgery for Palmetto General Hospital and chief of cardiopulmonary surgery for Mercy Hospital. 

Since April of 2011, he has been serving as Chair of the Division of Cardio Thoracic Surgery at Nova Southeastern University.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), he is triple board-certified in general surgery, trauma/critical care surgery, and thoracic surgery through both the American Board of Surgery & the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. 

In April of 2019, Dr. Segurola Jr. joined Jackson Health System as a Jackson Medical Group physician. His other affiliations include Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, Coral Gables Hospital, and Kendall Regional Medical Center.
