Dr. David Panting is a general psychiatrist, with special interest in neuropsychiatric conditions, addiction medicine as well as interface of general medicine and mental illness. Dr Panting is an accomplished physician (has been board certified in Psychiatry and is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine) Has maintained a private practice in Bradenton FL since 1997 and just recently has accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at The University of Alabama, College of Community Health Sciences, Tuscaloosa where he is to start his new position September of 2024. His leadership roles include Medical Director of First Step of Sarasota where he contributed to the establishment of the 3rd Addictions Reciving Facility for the State of Florida. He retired from that position after 20 years of community service in 2019. He currently enjoys community work as Medical Director for the state of Florida Volunteers of America program (since 2010) which mission is to reduce public expenditures for homelessness, hospitalization and institutionalization. He served as Medical Director of Manatee Memorial Hospital Department of Psychiatry (2011-2013), and currently leads the Consultation Liaison and Emergency Department psychiatric services at that facility. Since 2005, after receiving an appointment as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at LECOM, he has enjoyed teaching medical students and since 2017 also teaches the Manatee Memorial Hospital Internal Medicine and Family Medicine Residency program physicians as well as the Centerstone Psychiatry Residency program physicians.
He received training in Electroconvulsive Therapy during his chief resident year at Allegheny General Hospital of Pittsburgh PA. Currently works part time as Attending Psychiatrist with Greenbrook TMS Therapy Center of Bradenton where he supervises Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Nasal Esketamine therapies.
He enjoys live music, long walks on the beach and outdoor activities, spending time with his wife and family in his North Georgia mountain cabin.

Dr. David Panting, an esteemed general psychiatrist with a robust background in neuropsychiatric conditions and addiction medicine, has accepted the position of Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at The University of Alabama, College of Community Health Sciences, effective September 2024. He brings with him over two decades of dedicated service in the mental health field, having maintained a successful private practice in Bradenton, Florida, since 1997.
Education-wise, he received his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras in 1985, before completing his residency in psychiatry at the Allegheny Neuropsychiatric Institute in 1996. He received specialized training in Electroconvulsive Therapy during his chief resident year at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He is currently an Attending Psychiatrist at Greenbrook TMS Therapy Center of Bradenton, where he supervises Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Nasal Esketamine therapies.
A board-certified psychiatrist and a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, Dr. Panting’s leadership roles include serving as the Medical Director of First Step of Sarasota, where he played a pivotal role in establishing Florida's third Addiction Receiving Facility. After 20 years of community service, he retired from that position in 2019 but continues to actively contribute to the mental health landscape as the Medical Director for the Volunteers of America program in Florida, aimed at reducing public expenditures related to homelessness and hospitalization.

Currently, Dr. Panting is the lead for Consultation Liaison and Emergency Department psychiatric services at Manatee Memorial Hospital and has a rich history of teaching. Since 2005, he has held an appointment as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at LECOM, and since 2017, he has also instructed physicians in the Internal Medicine and Family Medicine Residency program at Manatee Memorial Hospital, as well as the Centerstone Psychiatry Residency program.
On a more personal level, he attributes his success to his persistent work ethic, a deep drive to serve others, and the unwavering support of his family. Outside of his professional commitments, he enjoys live music, long walks on the beach, and spending quality time with his wife and family at their mountain cabin in North Georgia.
