Get to know Colorectal Surgeon Dr. Farshid Araghizadeh, who serves patients throughout the State of Texas.
An accomplished colorectal surgeon, Dr. Araghizadeh is affiliated with Texas Digestive Disease Consultants (TDDC) & The GI Alliance (TGIA), the largest digestive diseases practice in the world.
His practice focuses on minimally invasive and robotic approaches to treating colorectal disorders such as colon and rectal cancer, colon polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, and hernia repairs. Additionally, he is an expert in treating anorectal conditions including hemorrhoids, fistulas, fissures, and rectal prolapse.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Araghizadeh earned his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society. He completed his general surgery training at the University of Texas Southwestern/Parkland Memorial Hospital and his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas, Dallas, with a special focus on improving the quality and efficiency of surgical care.
Distinguished as a Fellow of the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgery (FASCRS), the doctor is board-certified in colon and rectal surgery by the American Board of Colorectal Surgery (ABCRS), and in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). Both the ABCRS and ABS are independent, non-profit organizations founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
In order to stay up to date in his field, Dr. Araghizadeh remains an active member of several professional societies, including the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and the Society of Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.
Among his other roles, Dr. Araghizadeh serves on several committees at Medical City – Alliance Hospital, including the Robotic Surgery, Surgical Advisory, and Professional Practice Evaluation Committees. He is also an Associate Examiner for the American Board of Surgery Certifying Examination.
Before joining TDDC/TGIA, he was a Professor and Chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center for over a decade.
Colorectal surgery is a field in medicine dealing with disorders of the rectum, anus, and colon. It covers caring for patients with cancers of the colon, rectum and anus along with other benign disorders like inflammatory bowel disease (Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease), diverticulitis and a myriad of anorectal pathologies like hemorrhoids, fistulas, abscesses and fissures.
As a testament to his success, Dr. Araghizadeh has received numerous awards and recognition throughout his career, including being voted a seven-time D Magazine Best Doctor from 2011-2017. He has authored textbook chapters and academic papers, as well as has presented at many national and international conferences on the topic of colon and rectal disorders.
In addition to his work as a surgeon, he enjoys spending time with his family. They love to indulge in music, sports, travel, and food.
