Get to know Neurologist and Headache Medicine Specialist Dr. Dolores D. Santamaria, who serves patients throughout the State of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Santamaria, a board certified neurologist, is the Director of the Headache Center at Allegheny Health Network (AHN). She also has medical privileges at Allegheny General, Allegheny Valley, and West Penn hospitals.

Certified as a headache specialist by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, Dr. Santamaria is committed to providing patients with personalized and compassionate expertise through multifaceted treatments and care. 

Her areas of expertise encompass a wide spectrum of neurological conditions and treatments, including botulinum toxin treatment (specifically for migraine only), chronic headaches, chronic paroxysmal hemicrania, cluster headaches, HA (headache), intractable headaches, intractable migraine headaches, migraine headaches, migraine headaches and prevention, migraine health center, migraines, ocular migraines, tension headaches, and trigeminal neuralgia.

Born and raised in Moscow, Russia, Dr. Santamaria began her medical education there and went on to earn her Medical Degree from Santiago of Compostela University in Galicia, Spain. She then relocated to the United States, completing her residency at Pennsylvania Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, both located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 

Subsequent to her education, the doctor attained board certification in neurology through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.

On a professional level, Dr. Santamaria holds the distinction of being a Fellow of the American Headache Society (FAHS) and a member of the American Academy of Neurology.

Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Neurologists are licensed medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles of patients. They examine a patient’s mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, and evaluate the results to diagnose and treat the patient.

On a more personal note, Dr. Santamaria is fluent in English, Russian, and Spanish.
