Can you fix high creatinine levels?
High creatinine means your kidneys are not functioning ideally. If the cause can be addressed with medications, then the kidneys can recover some of the lost function and the creatinine will decrease. But if the cause is not treatable it will remain elevated. It is a basic measure of renal function, ie how much blood per minute the kidneys can process. It’s a rough measure because creatinine production depends on muscle mass, diet; etc, READ MORE
I think I have a positive tb test?
No you have to wait 48 hours to read and it should be firm and raised and a certain size. A licensed medical provider should read it for you at the appropriate time. READ MORE
What is the ideal PSA level for 50 years old?
Lower is better, but PSA is produced by benign and malignant prostate cells, so an elevated PSA is not very specific. It’s not a great screening tool, but it remains the most sensitive one we have (about 75% sensitivity and only 17% specificity) READ MORE
Should I see a doctor for hip pain?
You might have severe degenerative joint disease and need a hip replacement, or you could have a hairline fracture. So I guess my answer is yes. READ MORE
What could be the cause of high PSA levels?
Prostate enlargement, inflammation, and other transient factors that are not understood can cause elevated PSA. There is a test called PHI that also measures types of PSA more strongly associated with cancer. Depending on that it may be worthwhile having a biopsy. Still, almost 40% of biopsies are benign. Best not to worry until your urologist says you should have a biopsy and it comes back positive. Even then, if it’s low grade you may be just fine for 20+ years. If not, it’s probably best to treat early and fairly aggressively if you have a longer life expectancy READ MORE
Is prostate biopsy risky?
Bleeding complications are unlikely unless you are on aspirin-like medications or blood thinners, which your doctor should have asked you to stop prior to the procedure. Infections occur in less than 5%, but can be serious if not quickly treated. Impotence is rare, but many men will have some blood in their ejaculate for weeks, or may have decreased libido from the stress of wondering if they have cancer. I think for most men the value of the information it provides overrides the risk of the procedure itself. READ MORE
Can I drink water before a PSA blood test?
Yes your body closely regulates your blood volume and it’s unlikely your PSA would change significantly from drinking. Of course if you go overboard you can get very sick from polydipsia (over drinking water). It causes low sodium and severe neurological problems READ MORE
