What is the treatment for high bilirubin in adults?
There are several causes. Gilbert syndrome is a familial cause that can cause clinical jaundice episodes, but is otherwise benign. Excessive lysis of red blood cells is another cause; this can be due to an autoimmune disorder or a viral infection. Severe liver disease is another cause; the bilirubin itself is not a big problem, but liver dysfunction, including but not limited to cirrhosis, is a big problem that must be addressed. READ MORE
Child's blood test?
Transfusions are a last resort. If the anemia is due to iron deficiency then iron pills or even intravenous iron supplements are best and safest. Other ways to increase iron are cooking in a cast iron skillet, eating red meats, etc. when the hemoglobin level drops below 6 mg/dL, then transfusion may be required. But this is rare unless there is a severe underlying cause of the anemia. READ MORE

This varies a lot. Some places give patients immediate access to their own results, aKaiser Permanente. I have gotten mine within about 3 hours for simple tests. READ MORE
How long is the biopsy of the prostate?

Is it normal to have pain 5 days after a prostate biopsy?
Yes, this is a brutally primitive procedure. We need better imaging studies that can highlight cancers without taking needle cores or better liquid biopsy, but this is the state of the science, unfortunately. READ MORE
How long does it take to get bone marrow biopsy results?
This can take 2-3 weeks or more depending on the indication, as some of the cytogenetic studies require the growth of your live cells in culture dishes, which like growing your plants can’t be rushed. READ MORE
How long should I wait for the biopsy results?
Your physician’s office or hospital should have a process for your doctor to review results and call you. Don’t wait too long though if you have a serious kidney condition! Sometimes they have a wrong number and aren’t reaching you! READ MORE
Will I get the lung biopsy results the next day?
While they may be available the next day to your physician, if it is a cancer there may be special stains and genetic studies that usually take at least 2 weeks to turn around. READ MORE
What type of anesthesia is the safest for a thyroid biopsy?
None is needed, the needle is very small. Still some practitioners use a little local lidocaine m, which is OK too. READ MORE
Will I get general anesthesia for a bone marrow biopsy?
Depends where you go. One place I worked used a brief epidosode of propofol, which worked great. Patient was asleep for 15 minutes and usually didn’t notice we were done when they woke up. READ MORE

You may feel sore for a day or two, but it’s usually not too bad. Younger patients often have more pain afterwards than older. READ MORE

It will probably be a few days for the tissue to be processed, examined, perhaps shared with another colleague, perhaps examined with additional special stains, results communicated to your doctor, and then he needs time to sit down and make callbacks. READ MORE

Yea they can use a local anesthetic. Often they will give some relaxation medicine like a benzodiazepine so you aren’t wiggling around in the scanner. READ MORE
Please help me interpret my AST and ALT lab results?
The elevated AST is not a harbinger of death, please relax a bit. Abstinence is highly recommended. There’s nothing good about alcohol. You don’t need it. That said, you are also on several medications, some of which could also be injurious to the liver. Maybe you should see a geriatrician and try to trim down your meds. READ MORE
