A native of Texas. Dr. Garay attended elementary, middle and high school in Houston. He was in the military and then graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston before completing his residency at the University of Colorado in Denver. Finally, he completed his fellowship in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at the Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in Portland.
Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the doctor is board-certified in general surgery and bariatric surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
