Get to know Dr. M. “Grace” Patel, who serves patients in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Carolina Children’s Eye Care, PA is the home office of pediatric ophthalmologist Dr. Grace Patel, located in Greensboro, North Carolina. She has clinical and surgical experience with a broad spectrum of childhood eye disorders, most commonly strabismus and amblyopia. She also has a particular interest in treating childhood cataracts and retinopathy of prematurity.
Her medical school, post-doctoral research and residency were completed at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. She then completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at St. Louis Children’s Hospital through Washington University in St. Louis/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, finishing ten years of post-college medical training in 2014.
Desiring to serve those in need, she and her husband (also an ophthalmologist, a retinal surgeon) traveled the length of Africa and to Central and South America over the last half of 2014, aiding local general ophthalmologists who needed subspecialist assistance for complex patients. They arrived in their new home of Greensboro on January 1, 2015 to begin serving the local community, the Triad and beyond.
Passionate about her profession, Dr. Patel is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmic physician-surgeons in the United States of America.
Continuously advancing her efforts, she is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismology, the Christian Ophthalmology Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Pediatric ophthalmologists are ophthalmic physician-surgeons specifically trained to diagnose, treat, and manage all children’s eye problems. They are skilled at recognizing the sometimes subtle signs of an eye problem that a baby or young child cannot describe, including the possible need for eyeglasses.
Dr. Patel is helped in her evaluation of children by her own experiences as a mother of three young children, two sons and a daughter. Her family keeps her busy outside of work and she wouldn’t have it any other way; they enjoy serving with Grace Community Church. In her (rare) spare time, she might be found on the tennis courts, reading a book or practicing piano.
