Dr. Mark W. Manoso, a distinguished spine surgeon and orthopedic tumor specialist, practices with Orthopedic + Fracture Specialists, serving the communities of Portland and Beaverton, Oregon. 

With a strong background in military service and a commitment to staying at the forefront of medical advancements, Dr. Manoso brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his practice. His affiliations extend to Center for Specialty Surgery and Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.

In his practice, Dr. Manoso offers a range of surgical options, from standard procedures to advanced techniques such as multi-level cervical disc arthroplasty and minimally invasive surgery. He remains dedicated to staying current with the latest medical advances to ensure that his patients receive safe and cutting-edge treatments tailored to their needs.

Born into a family with a military background, Dr. Manoso’s journey into medicine and orthopedic surgery was shaped by his early experiences and values. After completing his education at the University of Virginia and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, he pursued his passion for spine and tumor surgery through specialized training and fellowships. 

Based on the military’s need at the time for an orthopedic tumor specialist, Dr. Manoso completed his first fellowship in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City before returning to the US Army. His assignment at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington kindled his affection for the Northwest. He deployed twice to Afghanistan, with the second tour as a Forward Surgical Team Commander providing life saving surgery to our service members and humanitarian care to local civilians. Dr. Manoso then completed a fellowship in spine surgery at Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington. He returned to Madigan as Chief of Orthopedics before joining Orthopedic + Fracture Specialists in June of 2016. 

Having been a sports-injury patient and experiencing his own surgery, Dr. Manoso emphasizes the importance of communication and trust in his patient care approach. “I find that ensuring my patients know what to expect and being there for them are fundamental in building a cohesive and caring relationship” he states. His two decade-long experience with the US military has further strengthened his bond of service to his patients and their families.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Manoso has excelled in various sports events, including Ironman Canada 140.6 in 2014, Ironman Lake Stevens 70.3 in 2013, and Ironman Vancouver 70.3 in 2015. His bicycling accomplishments include the Reach the Beach Century Ride in 2012, Tour de Blast in 2013, the Seattle to Portland one-day ride in 2015, and the Ramrod (150-mile ride around Mt. Rainier) in 2015. Additionally, he has completed multiple full and half marathons, embodying a holistic approach to health and well-being that he brings to his patient care philosophy.
