Born into a family with a military background, Dr. Manoso’s journey into medicine and orthopedic surgery was shaped by his early experiences and values. After completing his education at the University of Virginia and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, he pursued his passion for spine and tumor surgery through specialized training and fellowships. 

Based on the military’s need at the time for an orthopedic tumor specialist, Dr. Manoso completed his first fellowship in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City before returning to the US Army. His assignment at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington kindled his affection for the Northwest. He deployed twice to Afghanistan, with the second tour as a Forward Surgical Team Commander providing life saving surgery to our service members and humanitarian care to local civilians. Dr. Manoso then completed a fellowship in spine surgery at Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington. He returned to Madigan as Chief of Orthopedics before joining Orthopedic + Fracture Specialists in June of 2016. 

Having been a sports-injury patient and experiencing his own surgery, Dr. Manoso emphasizes the importance of communication and trust in his patient care approach. “I find that ensuring my patients know what to expect and being there for them are fundamental in building a cohesive and caring relationship” he states. His two decade-long experience with the US military has further strengthened his bond of service to his patients and their families.
