In private practice since July of 1999, the doctor performs a wide variety of operations but has a particular interest in laparoscopic and robotic surgery, hernia repairs, gallbladder surgery, and non-cosmetic breast cancer surgery.

Alongside his responsibilities of private practice and serving as Chief of Surgery at Sutter Medical Center & Chief of General Surgery at Mercy General Hospital, Dr. Aguilar partners with the California Northstate University College of Medicine. As part of their clinical faculty, he acts as a preceptor for third-year medical students completing their surgical clerkship. 

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Dr. Aguilar attended UCLA where he received his Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Psycho-Biology. He then attended medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. After medical school, he continued his medical education with an internship and residency in general surgery at the University of California, Davis Medical Center.

During his college and post-graduate years, he received numerous academic and scholarship honors, including being elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Following his residency, he went into private practice in 1999. 

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of neoplasms, gallbladder disease, a variety of hernia defects, and breast cancer. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.
