His clinical interests include cardiac valve disease, nuclear cardiology, heart failure, ischemic heart disease, mitral valve disease, myocardial infarction, non invasive cardiology, and valvular heart disease.

The board-certified cardiovascular physicians at Houston Cardiovascular Associates focus on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the heart and stay up to date on the latest advances in the field. With a broad educational background, Dr. Yao obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from The University of Texas at Austin in 1997, and earned his medical degree from the Texas Tech School of Medicine in 2001. In the next 10 years, he completed his residency in internal medicine, his research fellowship, and his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the Baylor College of Medicine.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology, echocardiography, and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
