A life-long resident of York County, Dr. Bene graduated from Eastern York High School, Franklin & Marshall College and the Temple University School of Medicine. She did her internship at York Hospital before undertaking her residency in ophthalmology at Temple University Hospital.
Thereafter, Dr. Bene worked at St. Judes Hospital (Memphis, Tennessee) on a research fellowship and briefly worked as a general ophthalmologist in Lexington, Kentucky. She advanced her skill and training with a fellowship in retina at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, and returned to her native York County to begin her advanced and highly specialized practice as a retinal eye surgeon in 1985.
Passionate about her profession, the doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.
Actively involved with several professional organizations, she is a long-time member of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
