  • Should I take antibiotics after having a root canal?

If you normally take an antibiotic for dental procedures in general due to an underlying condition, then an antibiotic should be taken BEFORE the root canal treatment. It is generally not required after the treatment UNLESS you have postoperative complications. It is always best to consult with the doctor who performed the treatment. It is usually not necessary for root canal treatment unless there are complications after the root canal procedure is started or completed. READ MORE

  • How many days rest after dental implant?

It depends on the extent of the surgery, the number of remaining teeth, and many other factors. You should get the answer to this question from the dentist who will be placing the implant READ MORE

  • Why are my gums swollen after deep cleaning?

It may be the result of a flareup from an underlying condition or if the "deep" cleaning involved a surgical incision. Otherwise, swelling is not "normal" and you should have the doctor or hygienist who performed it reevaluate your issue. READ MORE

  • How do you treat a pit and fissure cavity?

If it is truly a "cavity" ie., there is decay and the dentist's explorer (pick) can penetrate the enamel, then it should get a filling. If it is merely a stained groove, then watchful waiting is usually the best choice. It is a matter of the treating dentist's judgement. READ MORE

  • What happens if bleeding doesn't stop after tooth extraction?

Some mild post operative bleeding is normal, especially if the extraction involved making an incision or removal of bone. You should have been provided with gauze to bite on after the procedure to help with the clotting. Bleeding after 24 hours is not normal. If you have been taking anticoagulants such as aspirin, that could prolong the clotting. Biting on a wet teabag wrapped in a gauze sponge or handkerchief can help to minimize the bleeding. If that doesn't work, you should report back to the treating dentist for an evaluation. READ MORE
