Get to know Oral Surgeon & Implantologist Dr. Alexander Rock, who serves patients in Commack, New York.

Well-respected in his field, Dr. Rock is an oral surgeon and implantologist practicing the full scope of clinical oral surgery, advanced implantology, advanced prosthodontic rehabilitation, and implant-supported restorations. He is in practice with American Dental in Commack, New York.

Back in 2006, Dr. Rock obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the New York University College of Dentistry. He then went on to earn his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in 2009. A year later, he completed his residency in general surgery at the same educational venue, followed by his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Kings County Hospital Center in 2012. 

In order to stay up to date in his field, he remains a member of several professional dental organizations, including the American Dental Association and the New York State Dental Society.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a surgical specialty focusing on reconstructive surgery of the face, facial trauma surgery, the oral cavity, head and neck, mouth, and jaws, as well as facial cosmetic surgery.  An oral surgeon can help with issues ranging from wisdom teeth and impacted teeth to jaw misalignment and bone loss. They are also able to treat chronic diseases or conditions that derive from issues of the mouth.

Implantology is the branch of dentistry dedicated to dental implants. The dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is inserted into the jawbone (either the maxilla or the mandible). It often takes the form of a screw that is composed of titanium or titanium alloy. An implantologist is a dentist who has undergone and completed extensive training and has vast experience in inserting dental implants.
