Mangone, MD, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery, as the Chief of Foot and Ankle Surgery in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at UPMC. Dr. Mangone brings expertise and innovation to his role and is recognized nationally and internationally for his proficiency in arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Before joining UPMC, Dr. Mangone was in private practice with EmergeOrtho in North Carolina. He served as co-director of the EmergeOrtho: Blue Ridge Division Foot and Ankle Center and was the medical director of the Ankle Center at AdventHealth Hendersonville. His extensive experience in clinical practice is complemented by his academic background, having graduated magna cum laude from Davidson College and cum laude from Emory University School of Medicine.
Dr. Mangone completed his internship and orthopedic residency at Emory Affiliated Hospitals. He further honed his skills with a fellowship in orthopedic foot and ankle surgery at the Center For Orthopaedic Care in Cincinnati, Ohio with Dr. G. James Sammarco. He is a recognized Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and an active member of several prestigious professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Society, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the Academy of Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery, and the Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Foundation (President through September 2024).
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Mangone is a founding member and current President of the Ankle Instability Group, an international consortium of orthopedic surgeons dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of ankle instability. His innovative contributions include the co-invention of the ArthroBrostrom technique, a groundbreaking procedure for arthroscopic lateral ankle ligament instability.
As an esteemed educator, Dr. Mangone has presented his work at numerous national and international conferences.
