An addiction psychiatrist & substance abuse expert, Dr. Rodriguez-Vecchini evaluates, diagnoses, and treats people who suffer from impulse control conditions related to addiction. He is trained to fully understand the biological science behind addiction in order to properly treat each patient.
Since 2003, he has been serving as a consultant psychiatrist at San Patricio Mental Health Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Prior to his current endeavors, he served as Chief of Psychiatry at the Puerto Rico Institute of Psychiatry (1976 – 1980), a Consultant Psychiatrist of Group Therapy at Roosevelt Roads US Naval Base (1976 – 1980), in private practice at Mercantil Plaza Suite 1401 (1976 – 1986), a Consultant Psychiatrist at DSCA-Caguas (1976 – 1996), a Consultant Psychiatrist at San Juan Methadone Program (1996 – 2003), and as a Consultant Psychiatrist of the Disability Determination Program (1976 – 2022).
Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Rodriguez-Vecchini graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Puerto Rico in 1964. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona in Spain in 1971.
Furthering his training, he performed his residency in psychiatry at the Puerto Rico Institute of Psychiatry from 1973 until 1976.
Board-certified in addiction psychiatry, the doctor is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
Attributing his success to love and passion for his patients’ improvement, Dr. Rodriguez-Vecchini is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Section of Psychiatry, Neurology and Neurosurgery of the Puerto Rico Medical Association, and the Puerto Rico Medical Association.
Addiction psychiatry is a medical subspecialty within psychiatry that focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of people who have one or more disorders related to addiction. This may include disorders involving legal and illegal drugs, gambling, sex, food, and other impulse control disorders. Just as the name implies, addiction psychiatrists are specialists that carry out the diagnosis and treatment of drug abuse.
Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Rodriguez-Vecchini enjoys playing basketball, piano, classic guitar, and the accordion. His favorite place to vacation is in Spain, and his favorite professional publication is Human Behavior related.
