Born and raised in California, Dr. Berger’s academic journey began at the esteemed California Institute of Technology (CALTECH), where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree with Honors in 1978. His time at CALTECH included invaluable experiences working at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, collaborating with Nobel Prize-winning scientists, which laid the foundation for his analytical approach to medicine.
Dr. Berger pursued his Medical Degree at the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University in Montreal, where he was actively involved in student governance and received the prestigious Scarlet Key award for his contributions. Following his classic rotating internship at St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal, he completed a family practice residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Yonkers, New York, ultimately establishing a “mom and pop” family practice in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, alongside his physician wife.
After nearly a decade in rural medicine, Dr. Berger transitioned to academia, taking on roles such as Associate Program Director at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center’s Family Medicine Residency Program and later serving as an Associate Professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Medical School. His diverse clinical expertise spans private practice, nursing homes, public health clinics, and military medicine, including work at MacDill Air Force Base.
