Get to know Urologist Dr. Jordan S. Gitlin, who serves patients in New York.
A respected urologist, Dr. Gitlin is in practice with Pediatric Urology Associates, P.C., seeing patients out of the offices in Commack and Lake Success, New York. He is interested in all aspects of reconstructive pediatric urology, specifically neurogenic bladder and complex hypospadias repairs.
Among his other roles, he is the Chief of Pediatric Urology at NYU Langone Hospital – Long Island, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor within the Department of Urology at NYU Long Island School of Medicine. He can also be found on staff at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Saint Charles Hospital.
Prior to joining Pediatric Urology Associates, P.C. and NYU Langone, he was on the faculty of Montefiore Children’s Hospital.
A graduate of Binghamton University, Dr. Gitlin received his medical degree from Upstate Medical Center, where he was at the top of his class and was elected to be a member of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA). He performed his general surgery and urology training at the NYU Medical Center, and then pursued a fellowship in pediatric urology. The first year of this fellowship was spent in the basic science laboratory of Dr. Henry Sun where his research focused on understanding the genetic link in patients with vesicoureteral reflux. The clinical portion of his fellowship at Riley Children’s Hospital covered all aspects of pediatric urology, but a special emphasis was placed on reconstructive surgery of the bladder, kidney, and penis/urethra.
Licensed to practice medicine in New York, New Jersey, and Indiana, he is board-certified in urology and pediatric urology by the American Board of Urology (ABU). The mission of the ABU is to act for the benefit of the public by establishing and maintaining standards of certification for urologists, and working with certified urologists to achieve lifelong learning to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, and ethical urologic care.
Published both nationally and internationally for his research of catheterizing urinary channels and pregnancy in women with bladder augmentations, Dr. Gitlin is an active member of the Society for Pediatric Urology.
Urology, also known as genitourinary surgery, is the branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary-tract system and the male reproductive organs. Urologists specialize in diseases of the urinary tract and the male reproductive system. Patients may be referred to a urologist if their physician suspects they may need treatment for a condition relating to the bladder, prostate, urethra, ureters, kidneys, and adrenal glands.
While a medical student, Dr. Gitlin was awarded the Herbert Lourie award for dedication, gentility, thoughtfulness, philanthropy, compassion, and commitment to academic excellence.
Among his other accolades throughout his career include New York Magazine Top Doctors (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), Newsday – Top Doctors on Long Island (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), Castle Connolly Regional Top Doctors, Patients’ Choice Award (2018, 2011, 2009, 2008), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2011), and Top 10 Doctor – City (2014).
