Excelling in his efforts, he is a member of several professional organizations, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Association, and the Society of Hospital Medicine (Fellow).
Following the completion of his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in 1984, Dr. Salem decided to further his education. He went on to serve his residency in internal medicine at Henry Ford Hospital.
Subsequent to his training, he began practicing general internal medicine and went on to found Michigan Hospitalists in 1995. Prior to its sale to IPC-Hospitalists in 2005, Michigan Hospitalists had become the largest independent, physician-owned and operated hospitalist company in the United States.
Aided by his expertise, Dr. Salem is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Hospital medicine is a medical specialty that exists in some countries as a branch of internal or family medicine, dealing with the care of acutely ill hospitalized patients.
