Get to know Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Yared Aklilu, who serves patients in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Well-versed in the field of infectious diseases, Dr. Aklilu works alongside Dr. Ledya Cobian at Aklilu and Cobian Infectious Diseases. In addition to specializing in infectious diseases, he has an avid interest in pediatrics and internal medicine.

Doctors Aklilu and Cobian specialize in infectious treatment of adults as well as pediatrics. They treat many conditions including HIV, MRSA, MSSA, cellulitis, recurrent UTIs, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. They also provide IV infusion, wound care, immunizations, and educate their patients on safe lifestyle practices and the importance of compliance with treatments.

Along with his excellent work at his private practice, Dr. Aklilu has medical privileges at several hospitals in Florida, including Holy Cross Hospital – Fort Lauderdale, Broward Health Medical Center, and Broward Health Imperial Point.

Regarding his educational background, Dr. Aklilu earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland in 1991. Following that, he completed his residency in internal medicine/pediatrics and his fellowship in infectious disease at the Tufts University Baystate Medical Center in 1995 and 1997, respectively.

Licensed to practice medicine in Florida, the doctor is board-certified in infectious disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Infectious disease is a medical specialty dealing with prevention, the diagnosis, and treatment of infections. An infectious disease specialist’s practice also consists of managing nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections.

As a testament of his dedication to his patients, Dr. Aklilu was awarded the Patients’ Choice Award in 2018.
