Get to know Rheumatologist Dr. Steve Flinkenstein, who serves patients in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Being a board-certified and fellowship-trained rheumatologist, Dr. Flinkenstein’s clinical interests include arthritis, autoimmune disease, and musculoskeletal pain disorders. He works at M Health Fairview Clinic – Midway in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

After earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Flinkenstein went on to complete his residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Jacobi Medical Center. This was followed by a fellowship at the University of Massachusetts. 

A member of the American College of Rheumatology, he is board-certified in both internal medicine and rheumatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Rheumatology is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases. Physicians who have undergone formal training in rheumatology are called rheumatologists. Rheumatologists treat arthritis, autoimmune diseases, pain disorders affecting joints, and osteoporosis. There are more than 200 types of these diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, back pain, osteoporosis, and tendinitis.

In honor of his clinical expertise, Dr. Flinkenstein is the recipient of: Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2010, 2011) and Patients’ Choice Award (2010, 2011, 2018).
