As a highly-trained and qualified psychiatrist, Dr. Broughton is the Medical Director of Southeast Arkansas Behavioral Healthcare System, Inc. in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Notably, he can be found on staff at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, which is one of the few hospitals in the state that operates an inpatient psychiatric unit.
Among his other roles, Dr. Broughton has been serving as the Deputy Sheriff Psychiatrist at the Jefferson County Sheriff Office – Arkansas since April of 2008. He provides acute stress management for the department, and is a fully certified Part-Time II Law Enforcement Officer by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training.
With a broad educational background, Dr. Broughton graduated with his Undergraduate Degree from the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff. He then went on to earn his Medical Degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine in 1990.
Furthering his training, Dr. Broughton completed an internship in psychiatry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center from 1990-1992, followed by a residency program in psychiatry at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta from 1992-1994. He returned to Pine Bluff in 1994 and was hired as a staff psychiatrist at Southeast Arkansas Behavioral Healthcare System, Inc. He was promoted to medical director in 1997, but left the mental health center in 1999 to open a private practice. He also has worked as an instructor at the Arkansas State Hospital for Mental Illness and at the University of Arkansas College of Medicine in Little Rock, before returning to the Southeast Arkansas Behavioral Healthcare System, Inc. as a staff psychiatrist in 2008.
Among his professional affiliations, Dr. Broughton is an active member of the National Medical Association and the Arkansas Fellow Pharmaceutical Association.
