Dr. Darrell Cass has moved to the Cleveland Clinic where he serves as Director of Fetal Surgery (2017-2018). He was former faculty in the Departments of Surgery, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where he practiced for 18 years. In Houston he was Co-Founder of the Texas Children's Fetal Center when it was only 1 of 3 centers in the world to perform successful open fetal surgery for life-threatening fetal malformations (CCAM and sacrococcygeal teratoma). Dr. Cass is a pediatric general and thoracic surgeon with particular expertise in the surgical care and management of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), lung malformations (CCAM, sequestration), ECMO, esophageal atresia, chest wall deformities (i.e. pectus excavatum), minimally invasive surgery, newborn surgical conditions, and ovarian disorders. Dr. Cass has written many chapters for major textbooks on topics such as lung malformations (CCAM), fetal surgery and fetal treatments, and has published over 125 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Cass is former NIH-funded research investigator for study of scarless fetal tissue repair and fetal vascular wall healing.
