  • Can PAD be treated with a surgery?

Yes. This condition is treated based on patients symptoms. For example, if a patient can walk a block, stop and continue walking... this is great. This would be the conservative method of treating PAD that doesn’t severely limit a patient’s lifestyle. Claudication is pain with walking due to PAD. If a patient has a wound that doesn’t heal or has rest pain due to PAD then surgery to treat a blockage is absolutely indicated. Today there are minimally invasive methods and also open surgical Options to treat. Lastly, if symptoms impact a patient’a lifestyle; this is also an indication to fix a blockage due to PAD. Medications such as aspirin, Plavix or low dose xarelto are also indicated READ MORE

  • What are the factors causing venous insufficiency?

A blood clot is different than venous insufficiency. A blood clot in a deep vein is treated with blood thinner. Venous insufficiency is when the blood in the veins takes a longer time than usual traveling back to the heart. This is due to a problem with the valves in the veins. Insufficiency can be diagnosed in the deep set of veins or superficial set of veins. If it is diagnosed in the veins close to the skin this can easily be treated with in office procedures READ MORE

  • Can bypass surgery work for someone with diabetes and BP?

A bypass surgery is recommended if an artery is blocked in such a way that blood needs to be rerouted around the blockage. Often, a vein is used to and sutured above and below the blockage so that blood can travel around the blockage. If a bypass is recommended, diabetes would not be a reason not to have the surgery. In fact, many diabetics have successfully had bypass surgery. READ MORE
