As a physiatrist, Dr. Tekmyster believes the goal of treatment should be optimization and return of pre-injury function. By using an approach rooted in the latest medical evidence combined with proven treatment algorithms his focus remains on decreasing pain and working together with his patients to allow them to resume activities limited by pain and injury. As each person is unique, patients can be confident an individualized treatment plan will be presented and implemented to allow for optimal outcomes and functional improvement.
Dr. Tekmyster is double board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine with subspecialty training in advanced interventional spine care, and sports medicine. He received his medical degree from Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in California and went on to complete an Internal Medicine Internship at Seton Hall University-School of Health and Medical Sciences, Newark, New Jersey. Thereafter, he completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New York Medical College and State University of New York. Dr. Tekmyster then went on to complete a fellowship at OSS Health/Sinai Hospital of Baltimore which provided in-depth training in sports medicine with a focus on advanced interventional and minimally invasive spine care, under the direction of world renowned leader in spine care, Dr. Michael B Furman.
He has extensively published on multiple sports and spine medicine topics and presented both nationally and internationally. His special interests include the care and prevention of athletic injuries, and musculoskeletal ultrasound. Dr. Tekmyster is currently serving on the Membership Committee of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Patient Safety Committee of the North American Spine Society. He is a current member of the sports medicine team for USSA and serving as a team physician for the US Ski and Snowboard athletes as well as having been serving as a ringside physician for boxing and MMA events throughout the state of Connecticut prior to joining Keck Medicine of USC. His background and experience make him the optimal choice for being able to initiate care for sports and spine injuries and is able to develop individualized treatment plans that will allow his patients quickly return to normal activities while utilizing the latest medical research and technologies.
