Recognized as a fellowship-trained hematologist-oncologist, Dr. Zafar is the owner & operator of Southwest Florida Cancer Center in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Back in 1999, Dr. Zafar obtained her medical degree from Rawalpindi Medical University in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Upon relocating to the United States, she went on to complete her internship within the Department of Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Science Center at Amarillo. She then joined the Department of Internal Medicine at Creighton University Medical Center and completed her residency. Finally, she completed her fellowship in hematology-oncology at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine.
The doctor holds many affiliations with several professional societies which include, but are not limited to, the following: the Florida Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Hematology, the American Cancer Society, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. She also holds a faculty position at Nova Southeastern University in Florida.
Dedicated to her profession, she is board-certified in hematology and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
With extensive research experience, Dr. Zafar has performed research at several top-rated cancer centers and universities including the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas; the Cancer Center at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska; and the Braman Family Breast Cancer Institute of the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida. Involved in various clinical trials, she is serving as Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator on various studies.
In addition to having published her research as co-author in top tier journals, Dr. Zafar has presented her research in the form of posters at various international conferences. What’s more, she has delivered lectures pertaining to various types of cancers both nationally and internationally.
