Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Saroj V. Bhat, who serves patients in Dearborn, Michigan.

Dr. Bhat is a board-certified nephrologist who currently serves as the Medical Director of the Fairlane Dialysis Center in Dearborn, Michigan. The Fairlane Dialysis Center is a part of Greenfield Health Systems – the oldest and one of the few remaining not-for-profit dialysis providers in the community.

In addition to providing her services at Fairlane Dialysis Center, Dr. Bhat holds hospital privileges at Henry Ford Hospital and Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, which are a part of the Henry Ford Health System. Founded in 1915 by auto pioneer Henry Ford and now one of the nation’s leading health care providers, Henry Ford Health System is a not-for-profit corporation managed by Chief Executive Officer Wright L. Lassiter III and governed by a 17-member Board of Trustees, with volunteer-led advisory and affiliate boards providing additional leadership. It is comprised of hospitals, medical centers, and one of the nation’s largest group practices, the Henry Ford Medical Group, includes more than 1,200 physicians practicing in over 40 specialties.

After earning her medical degree from Grant Medical College in Mumbai, India, Dr. Bhat relocated to the United States to finish her training. She completed her residency in pathology at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital in 1978, followed by her residency in internal medicine at the University of Louisville in 1980. She also completed her residency in internal medicine and her fellowship in nephrology at Wayne State University in 1982 and 1985, respectively.

She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, as well as board-certified in both internal medicine and nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists, like Dr. Bhat, have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care when the time comes.
