She has taught in the Oculoplastic Department at Wills Eye Hospital for 24 years, and has her private practice - The Hughes Center - in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

A graduate of Manhattanville College in 1971, Dr. Hughes received her medical degree from the George Washington University Medical School in 1975. She then went on to complete her internship at the University of California, Irvine in 1976, and her residency in ophthalmology at the Albany Medical Center in 1979. Finally, she completed her fellowships in oculoplastic surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear in 1981, and at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London in 1982.

As a testament of her continued education, the doctor is board-certified in facial cosmetic surgery by the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery, which is the preeminent medical credentialing body for facial cosmetic surgery in North America.

To boot, she is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Achieving fellowship status, Dr. Hughes is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and Fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (FASOPRS). She is also a Secretary and on the Board of Trustees of the American Society of Cosmetic Surgery.

Remaining up to date in her field, she is an active member of theAmerican Medical Association, the American Medical Women’s Association, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, the Physicians for Social Responsibility, and the European Society of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

An authority in her field, Dr. Hughes has consistently been selected by her peers as a Philadelphia “Top Doc” in eyelid plastic surgery and facial cosmetic surgery in Philadelphia Magazine’s annual survey. In addition, she has also been recognized as a South Jersey “Top Doc” in Plastic Surgery.

On a more personal note, she is the oldest of seven children, all doctors, who followed in the footsteps of their physician parents.
