  • Can back surgery help sciatica?

Sciatica has several causes - nerve root impingement caused by disc herniations or arthritis, piriformis syndrome, muscle spasm, and a few others. First - determining the cause is of primary importance. Back surgery - even most surgeons would tell you - is a last resort. Non-invasive methods of treatment once the cause is determined would be physical therapy, chiropractic care, spinal decompression, pain management via injections, shock wave therapy, well before considering surgery UNLESS the cause is urgent, such as a migrating fragmented disc, or you are progressively over a short period of time losing neurological function. • I have a pain in my neck every morning. Can you tell me what could it be?

If you are waking with pain in your neck, the answer could be as simple as the pillow you are sleeping on. If you are a side sleeper, ensure you are maintaining a neutral position while on your side. If back sleeper, ensure you are not on too fluffy of a pillow causing your neck to be elevated. If it is resulting in a headache, it could be a combination of pillow and a restriction in the occiput. Please see a chiropractor to explore these options. READ MORE

  • Is it normal to hurt more after seeing a chiropractor?

Sometimes, depending upon how tight your muscles are prior to the adjustment, the muscles can get a sore - a bit like doing a new exercise for the first time. After an adjustment, the muscles are actually having to readjust and work in a proper fashion. If there was significant trauma - that would affect soreness also. Your chiropractor should tell you what to do if you get sore and roughly how long it should last. Barring significant trauma, in general, you may have soreness that lasts up to 24 hours. If you do experience this, contact your chiropractor and ask what they recommend for self care to alleviate the pain. READ MORE

“At Mountain View Chiropractic, we believe that you can make big changes in your health by focusing on the small steps. Our work in health and the community is inspired by the Butterfly Effect, a meteorological phenomenon discovered and coined by Edward Lorenz. If a butterfly is flapping its wings in Australia and has the potential to create a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico; we believe that even one adjustment can help lead to better health and wellness. When our patients feel better, eat better, and heal better; they in turn can have further positive effects in our community at large” as stated on her website.
