A board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Penney has more than 30 years of experience and has dedicated his career to bringing cutting edge advances in women’s healthcare to Central New Jersey. He is affiliated with Holmdel OB/GYN Associates, seeing patients at their offices in Atlantic Highlands, Holmdel, and Shrewsbury, New Jersey.

Information technology has been a passion of Dr. Penney’s for more than 20 years, and as a result, Holmdel OB/GYN Associates was the first to adopt electronic medical records in Monmouth County. As much as he is involved in the advances that surround healthcare, he remains committed to caring for mom and baby through childbirth.
Back in 1981, Dr. Penney graduated with his medical degree from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. He then went on to complete his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Saint Michael’s Medical Center in 1982 and 1987, respectively.
Distinguished as a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), he is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.
As the pioneer in robotic surgery at Riverview Medical Center, Dr. Penney has championed the robotics program. Currently, as the Director of Robotic Surgery, the program has grown exponentially under his stewardship. He is also an at-large member for Hackensack Meridian Health partners, as well as a lead physician for Axia Women’s Health.
Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).
