Demonstrating Patient Care and Advancement in Atlanta’s Medical Community

Dr. Aakash R. Amin is a highly sought-after nephrologist known for his compassionate patient care and clinical expertise. He is a Partner and the Director of Advanced Practice Provider Education at Georgia Nephrology, operating out of the office in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

His commitment to excellence and continuous pursuit of knowledge make him a valuable addition to the medical community in Atlanta, where Dr. Amin holds the esteemed positions of Medical Director at Fresenius Walton Dialysis Center since January 2018, interventional nephrologist at Preferred Vascular Group since July 2021, and serves as Medical Director at Davita Snellville Dialysis Center since January 2022. He believes that the best outcomes in medicine are achieved by ensuring that patients have a good understanding of their health conditions, which is why he concludes each consultation with an invitation for questions.

Dr. Amin’s expertise and dedication to the field have earned him affiliations with some of the top medical institutions in the Atlanta area. His affiliation with Piedmont Eastside Medical Center, Northside Hospital Gwinnett, Northside Hospital Duluth, and Emory Johns Creek Hospital, where he also holds interventional nephrology privileges, solidify his commitment to providing exceptional care to his patients.

With an impressive medical background, Dr. Amin completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree and Medical Degree at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine from August 1997 to May 2003. He followed with an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center, an additional residency in internal medicine at Emory University School of Medicine, and a fellowship in clinical nephrology at Emory University School of Medicine, concluding in August 2010.

Holding dual board certifications in nephrology and internal medicine, Dr. Amin is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. Additionally, he is certified by the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology for performing Hemodialysis Vascular Access procedures.

Among his professional affiliations, Dr. Amin is an active member of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology, the American Society of Nephrology, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

He has contributed to the medical field through both publications and research presentations. In his publication “Mediterranean Diets: Are they Practical in the Western World?” in Kidney International in 2009, he explored the feasibility of Mediterranean diets in Western societies.

In October 2005, Dr. Amin presented on “Ayurvedic Medicine” at the Department of Medicine Resident Grand Rounds at Emory University School of Medicine. From July 2009 to November 2009, he was engaged in research aimed at optimizing nephrology education at Emory University, under the mentorship of Dr. James L Bailey, analyzing the workday of Nephrology Fellows to enhance educational opportunities.

Named Atlanta’s Top Doctor in Nephrology and Interventional Nephrology for 2024 by Atlanta Magazine, Dr. Amin attributes his remarkable career trajectory to the guidance and support of his mentors, including Dr. Chanko, Dr. Edirch, Dr. Bailey, and Dr. Rahhari. He also acknowledges the invaluable lessons he learned from his parents, immigrants from India, who instilled in him the values of grit, determination, and hard work.

In his personal life, Dr. Amin enjoys spending time with his two daughters and his wife. He loves the University of Michigan football and basketball programs – perhaps to a fault. His favorite band is U2 and he delights in traveling to destinations such as India, Canada, and Mexico, with aspirations of embarking on a European tour in the near future.
