Back in 1983, Dr. Chumley earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Pre-Medicine and Psychology at the Occidental College, and received her Master of Public Health degree from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in 1986, focusing on Maternal and Child Health, and Nutrition.
Subsequently, she graduated with her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in 1993, where she was the recipient of the President’s Award. Finally, she completed her residency in family medicine at the California Hospital Medical Center in 1997.
Dr. Chumley’s trailblazing career includes a historic presidency at the Association of Black Women Physicians (ABWP), where she became the first Osteopathic Physician and Surgeon to hold such a position. Her commitment to professional organizations extends further, with roles such as treasurer at the Charles R. Drew Medical Society and active membership in the National Medical Association (NMA). Notably, she has been appointed to the NMA/Council of the Concerns of Women Physicians (CCWP) for the term 2021-2025, showcasing her dedication to advancing women’s healthcare.
Actively engaged in her community, she provides ambulatory emergency care to both children and adults. Her role as a medical consultant extends to collaborations with private and public organizations, contributing to the bioethics committee at California Hospital Medical Center.
