Get to know more about Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Samuel J. Hess, who serves patients in Florida.

A specialist in the field of orthopedic surgery, Dr. Hess works at iRISE Spine and Joint, seeing patients out of the offices in Coral Springs, Lake Worth, and Orlando, Florida. He specializes in disc replacements, sacroiliac joint fusions, and stem cell injections, and welcomes patients who are experiencing back problems, herniated disk, scoliosis, degenerative disease and neck problems.

iRISE Spine and Joint has proudly provided effective surgical and nonsurgical treatment solutions for a variety of ailments affecting joints and spines and the surrounding ligaments, tendons, and muscles for two decades. It is a 190-person staff with extensive training and knowledge in their respective fields. Each medical professional is devoted to helping patients achieve their best lives through use of innovative, reliable technology. They are lifelong learners constantly striving to implement the latest practices to provide their patients with the greatest chance of recovering quickly and comfortably.

Prior to being employed at iRISE Spine and Joint, Dr. Hess served as the Medical Director of the Spine and Orthopedic Center at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.

Professionally, he is affiliated with several medical organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, the American College of Spine Surgeons, the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, and the Society of Lateral Access Surgeons.

A psychology major at the University of Michigan, Dr. Hess earned his medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in 1999. He then went on to complete a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in 2004, followed by a spine fellowship at the Scoliosis & Spine Center at UM St. Joseph Medical Center.

With over 22 years of experience, he is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Among his most notable achievements, Dr. Hess holds CLE and CEU certification, and certification for the development of products for use and implementation in spine surgery. He also served as a Clinical Researcher Globus Medical for “A Prospective Randomized Clinical Investigation of the FLEXUS™ Interspinous Spacer: A Pivotal Study”. The study was used to evaluate this product for the treatment of stenosis compared to FDA approved XSTOP.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

During his free time, Dr. Hess volunteers his time to patients who cannot afford orthopedic and spine care. His hobbies include equestrian sports and activities, collecting art, reading, listening to live music, and spending time with his three daughters. He speaks both English and Spanish.
