Get to know Interventional Pain Management Specialist Dr. David Todd, who serves patients in Nashville, Tennessee.

As a board-certified interventional pain management specialist, Dr. Todd takes a multidimensional approach to treating patients that includes therapies, medication management, and minimally invasive procedures. In affiliation with Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance in Nashville, he sees patients and performs procedures at Saint Thomas West, Saint Thomas Midtown, and Saint Thomas Rutherford campuses. 

Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance is the largest orthopaedic surgery group in Nashville and Middle Tennessee. The practice strives to provide the full spectrum of care from initial diagnosis of all musculoskeletal disorders, through treatment, rehabilitation, and education to prevent future injury. The physicians working there concentrate on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. Their goal is to restore each individual to an active and functional life.

A native of West Texas, Dr. Todd graduated from Ohio State University with honors before attending the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He then completed his residency in anesthesia, followed by his fellowship in interventional pain treatment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. During his fellowship, he received extensive training in treating various acute and chronic pain pathologies, including disorders of the spine, postoperative pain syndromes, myofascial disorders, and arthritis. In addition, his training included using various modalities to treat neuropathic pain, complex regional pain syndrome, and headaches.

Dr. Todd is board-certified in both anesthesiology and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology, whose mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. Additionally, he is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and the American Academy of Pain Medicine.

Pain management, pain medicine, pain control or algiatry, is a branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with chronic pain. Rather than just prescribing medication or only recommending physical therapy, an interventional pain management specialist utilizes all sources of treatment to eliminate pain in the fastest and most effective way possible for each individual patient.

An experienced scientific and clinical researcher, Dr. Todd has been published in numerous books, publications, and presentations. Away from the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. He also enjoys golf, basketball, travel, college sports, and reading.
