Thereafter, he completed his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia, earning four degrees in four years. He then went on to complete his two-year residency in general surgery, with the first at the Medical University Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, and the second in Baltimore, Maryland. Four years of rigorous training followed at the world-famous John Hopkins Hospital specializing in facial surgery. This was followed by three years at the renowned plastic surgery program at Stanford University in California.
Moreover, Dr. Jones was given, as a representative of Stanford, a Fulbright Fellowship to study in Paris, France, for a year with the geniuses of plastic surgery, including Dr. Paul Tessier, Dr. Yves Illouz, Dr. Vladimir Mitz, Dr. Renee Malik, Dr. Dardour, and Dr. Jost.
Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in plastic surgery through the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). The mission of the ABPS is to promote safe, ethical, efficacious plastic surgery to the public by maintaining high standards for the education, examination, certification, and continuous certification of plastic surgeons as specialists and subspecialists.
To boot, he is board-certified in otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, which serves the public by ensuring that diplomates meet the standards of training, knowledge, and professionalism through initial and continuing certification.
Remaining up to date in his field, Dr. Jones is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Among his prior academic appointments, he served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at the Johns Hopkins University, and as an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at Stanford University.
In his professional experience, his papers have appeared in several medical journals, including The Annals of Plastic Surgery. He has been quoted and interviewed by such general magazines as Women’s Daily and for CBS television’s Sixty Minutes by Diane Sawyer as well as local television stations. He is also a guest speaker and lecturer in the community.
Wanting to bring back to his native Georgia and make Atlanta a better center of expertise in plastic surgery, Dr. Jones moved to Atlanta in November 1989. His dedication to his training and specialties have made him one of the world’s most trusted names in plastic surgery.
Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. It can be divided into two main categories – reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. A plastic surgeon’s primary responsibility is performing surgical and non-surgical procedures, and they use a variety of reparative and reconstructive techniques to get the job done.
On a more personal note, Dr. Jones has been a participant in the nationally recognized Interplast program volunteering his services to the poor children of South America who cannot afford to have surgery on their cleft lips or cleft palates or burn scars. He is fluent in both English and French.
